Do Financial Struggles Impact the Choices on Career Paths at Texas Tech University?

About Me
Hi everyone! I’m Arin Turner a Pre-Med Freshman at Texas Tech University! This website was made for my 1301 English-Multimodal Research Project. This website is going to help thousands of students who are struggling to make ends meet. I am a struggling college student myself, so I know how stressing it is to not have enough money. This website is to help give more information and allow more students to speak out about their struggles.
Interviews from fellow on-campus Texas Tech Students

Alyssa Cox
Freshman, 19, Pre-Med Pathway, Biology Major
“Hi, I’m Alyssa Cox! I am a freshman here at Texas Tech University and I am on the Pre-Med pathway, majoring in Biology. I have used loans to get through my first year here at Tech, I have never been on the higher end of the financial scale, my parents help me just as much as they can! I wanted to be a doctor for as long as i can remember, but I changed my career path because of funds. I recently just changed it back to pre-med, because me and my parents decided that was my dream! I am always worried about not being able to pay off my loans because college is so expensive. I wish there was more ways or more scholarships from Tech that could help my situation!”

Maya Davis
Freshman 18, Business Major
“Hi everyone, I’m Maya! I am a freshman at Texas Tech and I was on the Pre-Nursing Pathway, I recently just changed my major to Business. Money was never a concern for me. I chose the college I wanted to go to and my parents allowed me to go. I never changed my major because of financial circumstances, I do not worry about student debt either, I know my parents are going to help out as much as possible, plus I have a job. I do understand that college kids struggle, I wish there was more that Tech could do, like more scholarships opportunities maybe?”
Survey Responses
During this research, I was recommended by peer review to do a survey. I did in fact publish a survey on Snapchat and I got 7 responses. All of these responses are anonymous. Below are some of the responses I got!
“Texas Tech could possibly allocate more funds into student aid instead of buildings that cost money to keep running, with that being said, I do believe Texas Tech is a great school and offers excellent facilities and programs!”

“Texas Tech makes so much money, they can affordd to help some of the students out and take into consideration students who pay for their own college, or parents that help, but can only help so much!”
On-Campus Texas Tech Student
“Texas Tech isn’t a super expensive school, there are more expensive schools in Texas. It would be nice if Tech could help out students in need, but it may cause an uproar with the people who aren’t!”
